The Electronics Technicians Association, International (ETA-I), Associate Electronics Technician (CETa) certification is an entry-level credential for electronics technicians who have less than two years of experience or who have trade school training in the field of electronics. Applicants for the CETa must meet the experience or training requirement and pass the exam.

The School Bus Technician certification is designed to identify and recognize those technicians who possess the knowledge and skills necessary to diagnose, service, and repair different subsystems of Type A, B, C and D school buses. The ASE School Bus Technician Test Series includes seven certification exams: Body Systems and Special Equipment (S1), Diesel Engines (S2), Drive Train (S3), Brakes (S4), Suspension and Steering (S5), Electrical/Electronic Systems (S6), and Air Conditioning Systems and Controls (S7). While several of these tests parallel existing ASE Medium/Heavy Truck tests, each one is designed to test knowledge of systems that are specific to school buses.

Renewal Period: Lifetime

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), DOD/EPA Section 608 Technician Certification (Type I) is a requirement under EPA regulations 40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F, under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act. This regulation requires that technicians who maintain, service, repair, or dispose of equipment that could release ODS refrigerants into the atmosphere must be certified. Technicians that service small appliances should be certified as a Type I Technician. Technicians are required to pass an EPA-approved exam to earn Section 608 Technician Certification. Exams must be administered by an EPA-approved certifying organization. There are no eligibility requirements to sit for the exam, but training is available through EPA-approved certifying organizations.

The International Society of Certified Electronics Technicians (ISCET), Certified Electronics Technician - Associate-Level is an entry-level certification. This certification validates the candidate's basic electronic knowledge for entry-level electronic professions. The exam covers basic electronics, math, DC and AC circuits, transistors and troubleshooting. The Associate CET is also a pre-requisite for ISCET Journeyman level certifications. Candidates must pass a written exam.

Certified Electronics Technician - Journeyman-Level - Computer Electronics. This is an entry-level certification exam. Technicians working in this field will have knowledge in the following areas; operation of computer systems with the greatest emphasis on the hardware, basic arithmetic and logic operations as related to computer theory, computer organization, input and output equipment, and memory and storage. The technician should have some knowledge of software and programming, and be able to explain troubleshooting procedures. Applicants must pass a written exam.

Certified Electronics Technician - Journeyman-Level - Industrial. This is an entry-level certification exam. Technicians working in this field will have knowledge in the following areas; characteristics and applications of industrial electronics components, the operation of devices such as triacs, SCRs, diacs, and Shockley diodes. Also covered are various kinds of transducers, operation of transistors and op-amps, single-phase and three-phase control systems, motors, PLCs and industrial electronics safety and basic knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Certified Electronics Technician - Journeyman-Level - Medical. This is an entry-level certification exam. Technicians working in this field will have knowledge in the following areas; Electrical safety and accuracy of calibration for electro medical instruments, plus the need for prompt in-house electronic service, are the priorities in this option. The applicant is expected to demonstrate a familiarity with the basic concepts and vocabulary of instrumentation, telemetry, measurements, differential amplifier and operational amplifier applications. Applicants must pass a written exam.

Certified Electronics Technician - Journeyman-Level - Radar. This is an entry-level certification exam. Technicians working in this field will have knowledge in the following areas; General knowledge of both pulse radar and continuous wave radar operation is necessary for taking this Journeyman option. This test covers transmitters and receivers, CRT display systems and their power supplies, antennas, transmission lines and their characteristics. Applicants must pass a written exam.

Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I certification validates individuals ability to properly perform and record the results of seven basic field tests on freshly mixed concrete. ACI will grant certification only to those applicants who meet both the requirements of a passing grade on the ACI written examination; and successful completion of the ACI performance examination. The performance examination requires actual demonstration of six of the required ASTM test methods and practices. There are no degree or experience requirements.

The International Fluid Power Society (IFPS), Mobile Hydraulic Technician (MHT) certification is for professionals in the fluid power and motion control industry who troubleshoot, test, modify systems, and prepare reports. MHTs apply fluid power theory and related knowledge to test and troubleshoot operational industrial hydraulic systems and applications. MHTs also read industrial application schematics, perform basic cylinder and hydraulic motor calculations, and supervise system installations and commissioning. To earn the MHT certification, candidates must pass a written exam and a job performance exam.

ISA's Certified Control Systems Technician Program (CCST) offers third-party recognition of technicians' knowledge and skills in automation and control. CCSTs calibrate, document, troubleshoot, and repair/replace instrumentation for systems that measure and control level, temperature, pressure, flow, and other process variables. CCST certifications are available at three levels, and each level requires the successful completion of an examination. The CCST examination is only one requirement for certification. The candidate must also meet minimum requirements comprised of work experience and education.

Electronics Technicians Association, International (ETA-I), Biomedical Electronics Technician (BMD) candidates are expected to obtain knowledge of the principles of modern biomedical techniques, the proper procedure in the care, handling and maintenance of biomedical equipment and to display an attitude/behavior expected of an electronics technician who works in a hospital or healthcare environment. Once the CET has acquired these skills, abilities and knowledge, he or she will be able to enter employment in any part of the biomedical electronics field. Candidates must pass a written examination. The BMD is a Journeyman certification that requires two years of experience and completion of the CETa certification or equivalent.

The Certified Master Automobile Technicians certification is designed to identify and recognize those automobile and light truck technicians who can demonstrate knowledge of the skills necessary to diagnose, service, and repair cars, SUV#s and light duty trucks. The ASE Automobile/Light Truck Test Series includes eight certification exams: Engine Repair, Automatic Transmission/Transaxle, Manual Drive Train and Axles, Suspension and Steering, Brakes, Electrical/Electronic Systems, Heating and Air Conditioning, and Engine Performance. To become ASE certified, technicians must pass one or more of the Automobile exams and present proof of at least two years of relevant work experience. Those who pass all eight exams are recognized as ASE-certified Master Automobile Technicians. Technicians may substitute two years of relevant formal training for up to one year of the work experience requirement.

Candidates applying for the IND certification are expected to understand basic industrial electronics concepts applicable to various specialty areas of industrial electronics; Additionally, candidates must meet minimum experience requirements of at least two years working in the industry, this may include electronics training. The Electronics Technicians Association, International (ETA-I), Avionics Electronics Technicians (AVN) certification is designed to assess the knowledge and skills of individuals who install, maintain and adjust electronics equipment, cabling and the accessories used in aviation communications and control equipment. It is highly recommended that the Avionics technician have an FCC General Radio Telephone Operator license. National Center for Aerospace & Transportation Technologies (NCATT), Aircraft Electronics Technician (AET) is NCATT's primary certification and is required for NCATT endorsements in the career field. AET certification recognizes the knowledge base of the advanced aerospace technician and promotes integrity, safety, and professionalism in the aerospace workforce. AET knowledge and skills include basic electronics facts, terminology, and principles, common maintenance practices, fundamentals of equipment maintenance, and aircraft fundamentals. There are no AET eligibility requirements. The AET written exam is open to all individuals regardless of career field, training, education or experience.

This is an entry-level certification designed to form a minimum qualification for personnel employed within the concrete construction industry. Candidates must receive a passing grade on the ACI written examination and successfully complete the ACI performance examination.

The Certified ProductionTechnician (CPTAE) assesses and certifies skills of front-line manufacturing production workers. This certification recognizes those who demonstrate mastery of core competencies of manufacturing production at the front-line level (entry-level through supervisor) through successful completion of the certification assessments. The CPTAE consists of five individual certificate modules: Safety; Quality Practices & Measurement; Manufacturing Processes & Production; Maintenance Awareness and Green Production. Candidates must earn the first four certificates to receive the full CPTAE certification. MSSC strongly suggests candidates possess at least a 10th grade reading (English) and 9th grade math level.

The National Association of Elevator Contractors (NAEC), Certified Elevator Technician (CET) credential is an intermediate-level certification for professionals who provide service for elevators. The National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET), Electrical Power Testing - Level I credential is an entry-level certification for electrical technicians who test equipment used in the production, transmission, and distribution of electrical power. The certification validates a technician’s knowledge required to inspect, test and maintain electrical power equipment. Electrical Power Testing - Level I technicians work under the supervision of a higher-level technician and performs duties such as isolating and ground power equipment safely; connecting test equipment; and conducting and documenting standard tests of basic single-function equipment. Candidates are required to have minimum of one year of practical experience supporting testing and maintenance of electrical power equipment, including basic electrical safety procedures and must pass a written exam.

The Electrical Generator Systems Technician Certification - Apprentice credential is an entry-level certification that demonstrates an individual's knowledge of on-site power generation equipment and systems. The Apprentice level exam provides technical college students, recent graduates, military personnel and other 1st or 2nd-year technicians with proof that the basic skill set has been met. The certification exam is written to assess knowledge that is necessary for proficient job performance. The exam includes questions about electricity and other topics relevant to the field of electrical generator systems.
