Electronics Technicians Association, International (ETA-I), Biomedical Electronics Technician (BMD) candidates are expected to obtain knowledge of the principles of modern biomedical techniques, the proper procedure in the care, handling and maintenance of biomedical equipment and to display an attitude/behavior expected of an electronics technician who works in a hospital or healthcare environment. Once the CET has acquired these skills, abilities and knowledge, he or she will be able to enter employment in any part of the biomedical electronics field. Candidates must pass a written examination. The BMD is a Journeyman certification that requires two years of experience and completion of the CETa certification or equivalent.

RECERTIFICATION

Biomedical Electronics Technician (BMD)

Renewal Period: 4 years

The Biomedical Electronics Technician (BMD) credential has the following recertification information:

  • The Biomedical Electronics Technician (BMD) is renewable every four years. Certification holders must earn 10 continuing education credits per year, for a total of 40 hrs over the term of the certification and submit annually to receive credit. Must also provide employer verification of work in an applicable field.   

    Detailed information related to the recertification process, associated fees and forms can be obtained on the ETA-I website.

    Note: If the four year term for the BMD is exceeded without renewal by certification maintenance, and the certification expires, then the certification holder will be required to retake the current version of the examination and will then again be eligible for the certification maintenance.
