The Project Management Institute (PMI), Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) is an entry-level certification for project practitioners. Designed for those with less project experience, the CAPM demonstrates an understanding of the fundamental knowledge, terminology and processes of effective project management. The written exam covers project management areas such as initiation, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, closing, and professional and social responsibility. Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least 1500 hours professional experience on a project team or 23 hours of project management education.

Education REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must have a Secondary degree (high school diploma, associate’s degree or the global equivalent).
Education and/or Experience REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must meet educational and professional experience requirements.
Option 1:Candidates must have 1500 hours of professional experience on a project management team.
Option 2:Candidates must have completed 23 hours of project management education.
Other REQUIREMENTS
The Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) credential has the following other requirements:
- Candidates must agree to uphold the Project Management Institute's Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.
- Candidates must have had responsibility for individual project tasks in their area of expertise (e.g., finance, marketing, legal, customer care, market research, fulfillment, processing). The responsibility does not need to be industry specific, but must be relevant across many functional areas and industries.
