The Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE) is a professional who leads and champions process-improvement initiatives everywhere from small businesses to multinational corporations that can have regional or global focus in a variety of service and industrial settings. A CMQ/OE facilitates and leads team efforts to establish and monitor customer/supplier relations, supports strategic planning and deployment initiatives, and helps develop measurement systems to determine organizational improvement. The CMQ/OE should be able to motivate and evaluate staff, manage projects and human resources, analyze financial situations, determine and evaluate risk and employ knowledge management tools and techniques in resolving organizational challenges. Candidate must have ten years of on-the-job experience in one or more of the areas of the CMQ/OE Body of Knowledge. A minimum of five years of this experience must be in a decision-making position. Candidate must pass a written examination.

Candidate must have 10 years of on-the-job experience in one or more of the areas of the Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence Body of Knowledge, including a minimum of five years in a decision-making position.

Note:

  • If the candidate has been certified by ASQ as a Quality Auditor, Reliability Engineer, Software Quality Engineer, or Quality Engineer, experience used to qualify for certification in these fields applies to certification as a Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence, as long as the 10-year minimum requirement is met.
  • Part of the 10-year experience requirement will be waived if the candidate has completed a degree from a college, university, or technical school with accreditation accepted by ASQ, as follows (only one of these waivers may be claimed):
    • Diploma from a technical or trade school - 1 year waived
    • Associate degree - 2 years waived
    • Bachelor's degree - 4 years waived
    • Master's or doctorate - 5 years waived

The Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE) credential has the following recertification information:

Candidates have two options for recertification:

  • Obtain a minimum of 18 recertification units (RUs) during the three-year recertification period and document those activities in their recertification journal.
  • Take examination (if certification has expired and is past the six-month grace period)
