Federal Occupation Description

This series includes all positions the duties of which are to perform, administer, or advise on work concerned with assuring the quality of products acquired and used by the Federal Government. The work of this series involves: (1) the development of plans and programs for achieving and maintaining product quality throughout the item's life cycle; (2) monitoring operations to prevent the production of defects and to verify adherence to quality plans and requirements; and (3) analysis and investigation of adverse quality trends or conditions and initiation of corrective action. The duties of these positions require analytical ability combined with knowledge and application of assurance principles and techniques, and knowledge of pertinent product characteristics and the associated manufacturing processes and techniques.

Renewal Period: 3 years

The Certified Quality Auditor is a professional who understands the standards and principles of auditing and the auditing techniques of examining, questioning, evaluating and reporting to determine a quality systems adequacy and deficiencies. The Certified Quality Auditor analyzes all elements of a quality system and judges its degree of adherence to the criteria of industrial management and quality evaluation and control systems. Candidates must have eight years of on-the-job experience in one or more of the areas of the Certified Quality Auditor Body of Knowledge. A minimum of three years of this experience must be in a decision-making position. Education can be used as a substitute for years of experience. Candidates must also pass a written examination.

The Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE) is a professional who leads and champions process-improvement initiatives everywhere from small businesses to multinational corporations that can have regional or global focus in a variety of service and industrial settings. A CMQ/OE facilitates and leads team efforts to establish and monitor customer/supplier relations, supports strategic planning and deployment initiatives, and helps develop measurement systems to determine organizational improvement. The CMQ/OE should be able to motivate and evaluate staff, manage projects and human resources, analyze financial situations, determine and evaluate risk and employ knowledge management tools and techniques in resolving organizational challenges. Candidate must have ten years of on-the-job experience in one or more of the areas of the CMQ/OE Body of Knowledge. A minimum of five years of this experience must be in a decision-making position. Candidate must pass a written examination.

Renewal Period: 3 years

The Building Performance Institute, Inc. (BPI) Quality Control Inspector Certification is for individuals who verify compliance of retrofit work performed based on work plans and standards. Use diagnostic equipment to conduct audits and inspections, and develop reports that specify corrective actions to achieve optimal whole house home performance. Candidates must obtain a minimum of 40 points from a combination of specified activities which include experience, training, and industry certifications. Candidates must complete a multiple choice exam and a practicum evaluation.
