ISA's Certified Control Systems Technician Program (CCST) offers third-party recognition of technicians' knowledge and skills in automation and control. CCSTs calibrate, document, troubleshoot, and repair/replace instrumentation for systems that measure and control level, temperature, pressure, flow, and other process variables. CCST certifications are available at three levels, and each level requires the successful completion of an examination. To qualify to sit for the CCST examination, the candidate must have a minimum of 13 years of combined education, training, and/or experience.

Education/Training and/or Experience REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must have a thirteen-year total of education, training, and/or experience. The following elements may be used to satisfy this requirement:
- A registered apprenticeship in an instrumentation, measurement and control, electronics, electrical, and/or mechanical program, if applicable.
- Academic degree (or equivalent) in a related technology area, to a maximum of four years.
- Related work experience, including at least two years in instrumentation/measurement and control.
Note: At least five years of the thirteen required must be specifically in instrumentation, measurement, and control.
Other REQUIREMENTS
The Certified Control Systems Technician - Level III (CCST-III) credential has the following other requirements:
- Candidates must agree to adhere to the ISA Code of Ethics.
- Complete documentation of work experience and education are a MUST to fulfill the requirements to qualify for each level of testing. Work experience and educational periods may not overlap when compiling the total number of years for a level. Related experience always means work done in the instrumentation, measurement and control, electronics, electrical and mechanical fields. One (1) year of work experience means 1500 hours of active employment during a twelve (12) month period.

Additional considerations for the Certified Control Systems Technician - Level III (CCST-III) include:
- There is no academic requirement for any level. However, candidates may substitute post secondary education in related technologies for a maximum of four years work experience as defined for each level of certification. Related technologies include instrumentation, measurement and control, electrical, electronics or mechanical technologies. An academic degree, or equivalent, means an Associate of Science (A.S.) degree in the above technologies or 40 semester hours in technology. Successfully completing the CST in Training Recognition Program equals one year of education. See the CST in Training web page for more details on the program.
