Federal Occupation Description

This series includes positions the duties of which are to direct, supervise, or perform work involved in insuring persons or property, determining that adequate insurance to protect Government or private interests has been provided, settling claims arising under insurance contracts, or performing other similar insurance examining work when the duties performed are of a technical, nonclerical nature, requiring (1) knowledge of insurance principles, procedures, and/or practices; the commercial insurance market; commercial insurance operations; or similar specialized insurance knowledge, (2) knowledge of pertinent statutory or regulatory provisions; related administrative regulations, and (3) some knowledge of contract law and of other laws related to the particular kind of insurance involved but not legal training equivalent to that represented by graduation from a recognized law school.

The Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) is an entry-level to mid-level professional certification recommended for government financial managers. The CGFM certifies an individual’s knowledge of governmental accounting, auditing, financial reporting, internal controls and budgeting at the federal, state and local levels. CGFM candidates must have at least two years of professional-level experience in government financial management. To take any of the CGFM examinations, candidates must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Candidates and those certified agree to adhere to the AGA's Code of Ethics.

The Project Management Institute (PMI), Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP) is an intermediate-level certification for professionals who specialize in project risk management. RMPs specialize in assessing and identifying project risks, mitigating threats and capitalizing on opportunities. Candidates for the RPM must meet educational, experiential and training requirements, and must pass the exam.

The AACE International, Earned Value Professional (EVP) certification is for practitioners of Earned Value with mastery of contract language as it relates to Earned Value application, the organization of a project’s scope into meaningful structure for execution, and planning, scheduling, and budgeting the project work from initiation through close out using an integrated cost/schedule tool. EVPs are also highly proficient in monitoring project progress for performance measurement. EVP candidates must have eight years of industry related experience or four years of industry related experience plus a four-year industry related college degree. Candidates must also pass a written exam.

The Association for Strategic Planning (ASP) Strategic Planning Professional Level I certification is for candidates that wish to bring together the latest strategic thinking concepts, strategic planning techniques and Balanced Scorecard best-practices. Strategic planning is an organization's process of defining its strategy, or direction, and making decisions on allocating its resources to pursue this strategy. It may also extend to control mechanisms for guiding the implementation of the strategy. Candidates must be a college graduate or have or 5 years' work experience in strategic planning or related field with a minimum of 2 years in an internal planning role or as a junior external planning consultant.
