The Project Management Institute (PMI), Portfolio Management Professional (PfMP) certification is an advanced level certification for professionals who oversee one or more portfolios. PfMPs balance conflicting demands between programs and projects and allocate resources based on organization priorities and capacity. Candidates for the PfMP must meet educational, experiential and training requirements and must pass the exam.

Education/Training and/or Experience REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must have a secondary diploma (high school diploma, associate’s degree or the global equivalent) with at least eight years (96 months) of professional business experience plus seven years (10,500 hours) of unique non-overlapping professional portfolio management experience.
Option 2:Candidates must have a four-year degree (bachelor's or the global equivalent) and at least eight years (96 Months) of professional business experience, with four years (6,000 hours) of unique non-overlapping professional portfolio management experience.
All project risk management experience must have been accrued within the last fifteen consecutive years prior to submitting the application.
Other REQUIREMENTS
The Portfolio Management Professional (PfMP) credential has the following other requirements:
- Prior to being eligible to take the exam, a Panel Review assessing the candidate's professional experience will be conducted. It is not possible to continue on to the examination without passing this review.
- Candidates must agree to uphold the Project Management Institute's Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.
