This standard covers nonsupervisory work involved in working at one or several work stations of a fuel distribution system, or operating a complete system, to receive, store, transfer, and issue petroleum and other products such as liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, and anhydrous ammonia.

The Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is an intermediate-level credential for professionals who support workplace safety practices. Candidates are required to have professional experience that includes safety responsibilities. CSPs conduct worksite assessments, determine risk, measure hazards and controls, evaluate risk and hazard control measures, investigate incidents, maintain incident and loss records, and prepare emergency response plans. Candidates are required to hold a bachelor's degree in any field. CSP candidates must meet experiential requirements that relate to the field of workplace safety. Candidates must pass a written exam.

Certified Plant Engineer (CPE). A CPE possesses the professional expertise and knowledge required to successfully perform plant and facilities supervisor activities. Candidates must at minimum have six years of experience in management in plant/facility engineering, or eight years of experience in the field overall. Education and experience as a registered professional engineer can be substituted for years of experience. Candidates must also pass a multiple-choice examination. The examination covers the topics of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, economics/management, environmental engineering, maintenance, OSHA, energy, controls and instrumentation, and HVAC. This credential must be renewed every three years, by earning at least eight recertification credits every three years.

The Certified Plant Maintenance Manager (CPMM) posesses the professional expertise and knowledge required to successfully perform plant and facilities supervisory activities. Candidates must have a minimum of two years of experience in maintenance management. Candidates must also pass a written examination. Recertification occurs through earning at least five recertification credits every three years.

The International Fluid Power Society (IFPS), Fluid Power Connector and Conductor (CC) certification is for professionals in the fluid power and motion control industry who fabricate, assemble, and test hose and assemblies. To earn the CC certification, candidates must pass a written exam and a job performance exam.

Renewal Period: 3 years

Oil Monitoring Analyst (OMA) is an entry-level certification. The OMA certification is designed for an individual who conducts first echelon oil monitoring and analysis, as it applies to lubrication analysis and machine condition monitoring. This certification is for individuals who have the responsibility of oil sampling, ensuring the correct tests get performed, reviewing basic oil analysis reports, and recommending first echelon maintenance actions. These individuals are normally shop or plant personnel who are required to oversee the oil analysis program on a daily basis. Generally, this applies to individuals such as mechanics, engineers, operators, tradesmen, chemical managers, or on-site laboratory personnel. Candidates must have 16 hours of training in oil analysis related courses, one year active employment utilizing oil analysis in the field of lubrication, and pass the OMA exam in the allotted time frame.

The API 510 Pressure Vessel Inspector certification is an intermediate-career level credential recommended for individuals who design, construct, repair, operate, or inspect pressure vessels. The API 510 Pressure Vessel Inspector certification validates an individual's knowledge related to maintenance, inspection, repair, and alteration of pressure vessels. The agency provides several combinations of education and experience pathways for candidates to meet the eligibility requirement. Applicants must have experience and knowledge of design, construction, repair, operation, or inspection of pressure vessels. The experience must have been acquired within the last 10 years while employed by, or under contract with, an authorized inspection agency.

The API 570 Piping Inspector Certification is based on API Standard 570, Piping Inspection Code: Inspection, Repair, Alteration, and Rerating of In-Service Piping Systems; and RP 574, Inspection of Piping, Tubing, Valves, and Fittings. The program promotes self-regulation and establishes a uniform program that assists state and local governments in process piping regulations. Candidate must be employed by or under contract to an authorized inspection agency or owner/user organization. Candidate must have one of the combinations of education and experience included on the website to qualify for taking the written examination.

The American Petroleum Institute (API), API 653 Above Ground Storage Tank Inspector certification is an intermediate-level credential for petrochemical technicians and other professionals. The aim of the API 653 Above Ground Storage Tank Inspector certification is to promote safe storage and material handling of petroleum products in a manner that protects employees, the public, and the environment. The program was developed with the participation of storage tank owners and users; it establishes a uniform national program that supports state and local governments regulations of aboveground storage tanks. Candidates are required to be employed by or under contract to an authorized inspection agency or owner/user agency and have a combination of education and work experience that satisfies the equivalent of 5 years of related experience. API does not have a minimum education requirement if the candidate meets the experience criteria; that criteria includes skill and experience in design, construction, operation, or inspection of aboveground storage tank skills. Additionally, candidates must have 1 year of supervisory or inspection experience that satisfies the guidelines set in the API 653 standard. Candidates with a BS in engineering or technology are expected to have one year of experience along with having the skills of supervision or performance of inspection activities of aboveground storage tanks as described in API 653. Candidates must also pass a written exam.

The Certified Maintenance and Reliability Technician (CMRT) is an entry-level certification. CMRT will provide a non-biased, third-party, objective assessment and confirmation of the skills of your industrial maintenance mechanics. CMRT's are responsible for preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance. They perform troubleshooting and analysis, and apply sound maintenance practices in all aspects of their work. CMRTs are multi-skilled individuals whose expertise is primarily mechanical in nature as opposed to instrumentation or electrical. The CMRT exam tests competency and knowledge of specific tasks within four (4) domains: Maintenance Practices, Preventative and Predictive Maintenance, Troubleshooting and Analysis, and Corrective Maintenance. There are no specific education or experience requirements to sit for the exam.

The Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), Associate Safety Professional certification (ASP) validates an individual's knowledge and experience in the safety profession. ASP certifies an individual's ability to perform at least 50% of professional-level safety duties in safety, health, environment and ergonomics. Safety professionals are required to make worksite assessments to determine risks, potential hazards and controls, evaluate risks and hazard control measures for equipment, systems, facilities and processes, investigate incidents, maintain and evaluate incident and loss records, and prepare emergency response plans. ASP candidates are required to have a minimum of a bachelor's degree in any field or an associate's in safety, health, or the environment, or a closely related field. In addition, candidates must have one year of professional safety experience where safety is at least 50%, preventative, professional level with breadth and depth of safety duties. Candidates must take a written exam.

Oil Monitoring Analyst - II (OMA). The OMA - II certification is designed for the oil analyzer, the individual in the laboratory responsible for properly running the appropriate tests, data interpretation, program management, and related activities. Oil monitoring in this context consists of sampling and analyzing the oil properties to assess whether the oil needs service and/or to assess the mechanical health of the equipment being monitored. This program is designed to be consistent with the standards of the National Organization for Competency Assurance (NOCA), ISO 17024.

Renewal Period: 3 years

The American Petroleum Institute (API), TES Tank Entry Supervisor (API TES) certification is geared to candidates with minimum knowledge, experience, and skills needed to safely perform duties required by tank entry supervisors. API TES candidates must have knowledge of above ground petroleum storage tanks and their construction. Candidates must also have knowledge of how to plan, prepare for and address potential hazards during the tank entry, ventilation and entire job process of tank cleaning and maintenance. Candidates must meet the minimum education and experience eligibility requirements and must pass a written exam.

The National Petroleum Management Agency (NPMA), Certified Petroleum Apprentice Level 1 (CPA-I) is an entry level certification for professional fuel handlers. The National Petroleum Management Association (NPMA) offers various levels of fuel handler certifications. The CPA-I certifies an individual's technical knowledge, safety and product quality skill to work in the Petroleum Industry. Applicants are required to have six months of experience in a related position and challenge a written exam. To move from one level of certification to the next and to ultimately reach the Certified Petroleum Professional (CPP) status, the applicant must complete Continuing Education Units (CEU) and meet requirements set by the agency. Individuals can gain CEUs by submitting training course information, work experience and education for the NPMA educational committee's review.
