American Petroleum Institute's (API), API 580 - Risk Based Inspection (RBI) certification is recommended for highly specialized inspectors, engineers, and other professionals across the entire petrochemical industry. Candidates must meet a combination of education and industry experience requirements acquired within the last 10 years. Candidates that hold a current API 510, 570 or 653 certification automatically qualify to take the API 580 Risk Based Inspection certification exam.

Candidates have no formal education and 5 years of experience in the petrochemical industry.
Option 2:Candidates must have a High school diploma or equivalent and 3 years of experience in the petrochemical industry.
Option 3:Candidates must have a two-year degree or certificate in engineering or technology and 2 years of experience in the petrochemical industry.
Option 4:Candidates must have a Bachelor's of Science (BS) or higher degree in engineering or technology and 1 year of experience in the petrochemical industry.
