The API 570 Piping Inspector Certification is based on API Standard 570, Piping Inspection Code: Inspection, Repair, Alteration, and Rerating of In-Service Piping Systems; and RP 574, Inspection of Piping, Tubing, Valves, and Fittings. The program promotes self-regulation and establishes a uniform program that assists state and local governments in process piping regulations. Candidate must be employed by or under contract to an authorized inspection agency or owner/user organization. Candidate must have one of the combinations of education and experience included on the website to qualify for taking the written examination.

Education and/or Experience REQUIREMENTS
- Must have a BS (Bachelor of Science) in engineering
- One year of experience in performing or supervising piping systems inspection as described in API 570.
- Must have two year degree or certificate in engineering or technology
- Two years of experience designing, constructing, repairing, operating or inspecting piping systems, of which 1 year must be in supervision or performance of inspection activities as described in API 570.
- Must have a hgh school diploma or equivalent.
- Three years of experience designing, constructing, repairing, operating or inspecting piping systems, of which 1 year must be in supervision or performance of inspection activities as described in API 570.
- Must have at least five years experience designing, constructing, repairing, operating or inspecting piping systems, of which 1 year must be in supervision or performance of inspection activities as described in API 570.
Other REQUIREMENTS
