This series covers positions the primary duties of which are to supervise or perform clerical and assistant tasks in support of established security programs (e.g., personnel, physical, information, or industrial security) when such work requires, in addition to general administrative and/or clerical skills, practical knowledge of specific security objectives, programs, methods, and procedures, and skills in carrying out support tasks related to security administration.

The Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) provides a recognized and reliable indication of a security practitioner's understanding of foundational concepts, principles, and practices needed to successfully perform functions, implement programs, and pursue missions to protect DoD assets. The SFPC is a prerequisite for the Security Asset Protection Professional Certification (SAPPC).

Renewal Period: 2 years

The Security Asset Protection Professional Certification (SAPPC) provides a recognized and reliable indication of a security practitioner's ability to apply foundational concepts, principles, and practices needed to successfully perform functions, implement programs, and pursue missions to protect DoD assets. The SAPPC is ideal for personnel who will be or are already performing security functions as an additional and/or embedded duty on behalf of (and as specified by) a DoD Component. The certification is also ideal for personnel who are working toward or already occupy full-time security positions for which attainment of this certification has been deemed a requirement or a professional development milestone. The SAPPC is the second of four certifications within the SPeD Certification Program. To obtain the SAPPC, candidates must already be a recipient of the Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC).

The Adjudicator Professional Certification (APC) is required for all Personnel Security Adjudicators in the DoD Consolidated Adjudication Facility, DoD Intelligence Community Central Adjudication Facilities, and personnel security adjudicators employed by an agency accepted to participate in the program.

Renewal Period: 5 years

The Institute of Certified Records Managers (ICRM), Certified Records Manager (CRM) certification requires candidates to meet both educational and work experience certification requirements. A minimum of one year of professional records and information management (RIM) work experience is required, regardless of the level of education a candidate possesses. The minimum acceptable education is graduation from high school (completion of 12 grades) or equivalent (e.g., GED credential or equivalency diploma) in conjunction with five years of professional level RIM experience. The preferred qualifications are a college degree (four-year or bachelor’s degree) and one year of professional RIM experience. CRM candidates must pass a six-part written examination.

The GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC) is an entry level security certification created to provide assurance that a certified individual holds the appropriate level of knowledge and skill necessary for anyone with hands on technical responsibilities in the key or essential areas of information security. The certification is targeted toward IT security professionals that want to demonstrate they are qualified for IT systems hands-on roles with respect to security tasks. Candidates are required to demonstrate an understanding of information security beyond simple terminology and concepts. There are no prerequisites for the GSEC certification.

Renewal Period: 3 years

The Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) is an intermediate skill level certification for individuals involved in network and systems security administration who are responsible for developing the information security policies, standards, and procedures and managing their implementation across various hardware and software programs in their organization. The SSCP is targeted toward those working towards positions such as Network Security Engineers, Security Systems Analysts, or Security Administrators. It is also appropriate for personnel in other non-security disciplines that require an understanding of security but do not have information security as a primary part of their job description, including information systems auditors; application programmers; system, network and database administrators; business unit representatives, and systems analysts. Candidates must have at least one year of systems security-related work experience.

The GIAC Information Security Fundamentals (GISF) is a basic skill level certification for managers, information security officers, and system administrators who need an overview of information assurance, risk management and defense in depth techniques. The GISF is targeted toward individuals who write, implement, or must adhere to, disaster recovery or business continuity policies. GISF candidates will be able to demonstrate key concepts of information security including understanding the threats and risks to information and information resources, identifying best practices that can be used to protect them, and learning to diversify our protection strategy. There are no prerequisites for the GISF certification.

The Industrial Security Professional (ISP) certification is an intermediate-level credential intended for security professionals who act as Facility Security Officers, or an equivalent, for facilities that protect classified government information and material. Candidates must take and pass a written examination with a focus on the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM) and requirements of related government security programs. Candidates must also have five years of relevant work experience, submit a recommendation from a current supervisor, and adhere to the NCMS code of ethics.

The NCCA Certified Computer Skills Specialist credential is recommended for computer technicians who work in health care provider offices. Typical duties performed by Certified Computer Skills Specialists include administrative tasks, creating documents, editing documents, data entry, processing word documents, making newsletters, presentations and promotional material, record keeping, publishing new requested documents, managing contacts and other tasks. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or its equivalent, and completed a training program or have an approved amount of experience.
