This series covers positions that involve advising on, managing, supervising, or performing administrative or program work relating to environmental protection programs (e.g., programs to protect or improve environmental quality, control pollution, remedy environmental damage, or ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations). These positions require specialized knowledge of the principles and methods of administering environmental protection programs and the laws and regulations related to environmental protection activities.

The Board of Environmental, Health & Safety Auditor Certifications, Certified Professional Environmental Auditor (CPEA): Management System certification is for candidates who have skills and understanding in any combination of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) science and technology and EHS management and technical aspects of business activities such as facility operations, requirements of EHS laws, regulations, and related documents at the national and local jurisdictional levels. Candidates must also have knowledge of EHS standards and how management systems and compliance audits are conducted. Candidates must have a 4-year post-secondary degree (or higher) or its educational equivalent and have a minimum of 4 years of general work experience. Candidates must take and pass a written exam.

The Board of Environmental, Health & Safety Auditor Certifications, Certified Professional Environmental Auditor (CPEA): Environmental Compliance certification is for candidates who can identify environmental aspects and impacts, assess compliance with environmental laws and regulations, and/or apply professional environmental compliance auditing practices. Environmental auditing is a systematic, documented evaluation of a facility, focusing on current operating and administrative procedures and processes. Candidates must have earned a 4-year post-secondary degree (or higher) or its educational equivalent and have a minimum of 4 years of general work experience. All candidates must take and pass a written exam.
