The Vibration Institute, Certified Vibration Analyst - Category II is an intermediate-level credential for professionals who specialize in machine and equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and engineering. Vibration Analysts certified at the second level perform basic vibration analysis using single-channel instruments according to established procedures, set-up instruments, and maintain a database of results. Applicants for the Category II Certified Vibration Analyst certification must meet training and experience requirements and are also required to pass an exam.

Credential Pre-requisite REQUIREMENTS
Applicants are required to hold the Certified Vibration Analyst - Category I. The Vibration Institute permits exception to this requirement. Review the "Additional Considerations" tab of this page for details.
Education REQUIREMENTS
The Vibration Institute recommends that applicants have a secondary school education.
Experience REQUIREMENTS
Applicants for the Certified Vibration Analyst - Category II must provide evidence of at least 18 months of experience in the field of machinery condition monitoring, diagnostics, and electrical and mechanical technologies.
Training REQUIREMENTS
Applicants for the Certified Vibration Analyst - Category II must provide evidence of meeting the Vibration Institute training criteria as follows:
- Provided by a training body that conforms to the requirements of ISO 18436-3
- Based on the Body of Knowledge for each category (these are vibration principles, data acquisition, signal processing, condition monitoring, fault analysis, corrective action, equipment knowledge, and acceptance testing)
- Included formal lectures, demonstrations, trainer-specified practical exercises, and/or distance controlled self-study
- Met or exceeded 38 hours.

Additional considerations for the Certified Vibration Analyst - Category II include:
- Applicants may skip the Vibration Institute Category I examination, certification, and formal training requirement for Category I only, and apply directly for Category II if applicants meet any one of the following criteria:
- Hold any 4-year degree from a college or university;
- Hold any 2-year technical degree from a college or university;
- Have 3 or more years of experience in vibration analysis; or,
- Hold an active vibration analyst recognition (certificate) at any Category from any reputable training organization.
