The NCCER Advanced Rigger must be able to demonstrate an advanced level of proficiency that includes knowledge in all basic and intermediate rigger tasks. The advanced rigger must be able to perform specific rigging operations as they relate to blind hoists, traveling with a load, working in close quarters, and lift procedures for personnel. The advanced rigger must also be knowledgeable and able to demonstrate proficiency in the design, documentation, and implementation of lift planning. To receive the Advanced Rigger certification, a candidate must complete and pass a two-hour, closed-book written exam as well as a practical exam.

Other REQUIREMENTS

The Rigger Certification - Advanced credential has the following other requirements:

  • Complete and sign the Application for the Rigger Practical Examination, which includes an affidavit verifying the candidate has successfully passed a substance abuse test, pursuant to the employer’s drug and alcohol free workplace and substance abuse policy, and will continue to comply.
  • Prior to training with this module, it is recommended that the trainee shall have successfully completed Basic Rigger and Intermediate Rigger.

    • Hand signals/voice radio (7%)
  • Crane Operations
    • Boom angles, load radius, capacity & load charts, load indicator & safety devices, load weight estimation, traveling w/the load, working in close quarters, in depth crane knowledge, spec criteria for single & multi-lifts (14%)
  • Lifting Criteria
    • Center of gravity, effects of angles, eq. capacity calculations, vectors & sling angles, personnel lifting (21%)
  • Equipment
    • Come-along, chain hoist, tuggers & winches, jacks, softeners, rigging hardware, slings, rope (10%)
  • Rigging Practices
    • Blind lifts, load configurations, mechanical advantages, taglines, lifting points, reeving (21%)
  • Lift Planning
    • Critical lifts, sling angles, load dynamics (14%)
