The Electronics Technicians Association, International (ETA-I), Photonics Technician Operator (PTO) certification is an entry-level credential for electronics professionals who assemble, measure, test, and repair optical components. Photonics technicians work on lenses, mirrors, filters, fiber optics, and electro-optic or other photonics devices plus optical sources such as lasers and light-emitting diodes (LEDs). Technicians develop and integrate photonics in enabling technologies—manufacturing and materials processing, Internet and communications, biomedical equipment, and Defense and Homeland Security systems.
