The Certified Facility Manager (CFM) credential validates an individual's knowledge and competency to practice as a facility manager. The certification process is designed to assess competency in the field through work experience, education and a written exam. The comprehensive exam is designed to assess an applicant's knowledge and experience in areas necessary to be a successful facility manager such as operations and maintenance, project management, finance and business, leadership and strategy, environmental stewardship and sustainability, communication, emergency preparedness and business continuity, human factors, quality, real estate and property management and technology.

Education and/or Experience REQUIREMENTS
Candidate must have some post-secondary education and meet one the following experience requirements:
- Have FMP designation and 5 years of Facility Management experience;
- Have 8 years of Facility Management experience without Facility Management Professional designation.
Candidate must have a non-related Bachelor’s Degree or Associate Degree and meet one of the following experience requirements:
- Have FMP designation and 4 years of Facility Management experience;
- Have 5 years of Facility Management experience without Facility Management Professional designation.
Candidate must have a Related Bachelor’s Degree and meet one of the following experience requirements:
- Have FMP designation and 3 years of Facility Management experience;
- Have 4 years of Facility Management experience without Facility Management Professional designation.
Candidate must have a Facility Management Master’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree from an IFMA Recognized Degree Programand and meet one the following experience requirements:
- Have FMP designation and 3 years of Facility Management experience;
- Have 3 years of Facility Management experience without Facility Management Professional designation.
