The certification holder demonstrates the ability to perform diagnostic testing and analysis to support energy efficiency within a home or building and has knowledge of building and international energy conservation codes. A certified individual has an understanding of mechanical systems, electrical power and lighting systems, and building service water heating systems. There are no experience requirements, education requirements, or pre-requisites that must be met prior to taking the written exam. However, individuals seeking the Commercial Energy Inspector certification should have technical knowledge and related experience in their chosen field of expertise. Candidates are required to pass a multiple-choice written exam with at least a 75%.
