The Very Small Water System Operator must have knowledge how to operate equipment and system, water quality parameters and sampling, how to install, maintain and evaluate equipment, perform safety duties and administrative and compliance duties. Candidates must have a high school diploma, and six months of operator experience. Candidates must also pass an examination, which is multiple choice and evaluates an operator's knowledge of tasks related to the operation of small water systems.

Candidates must have .6 Continuing Education Units to take the exam. In addition, candidates must complete any approved training courses required by their state.
Experience REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must have at least six months of experience to take the exam. Depending on the level of certification (Class I-IV), there may be additional experience requirements.
