The American Welding Society (AWS), Senior Certified Welding Inspector (SCWI) certification is an advanced-level credential for supervisory or managerial welding quality control and quality assurance professionals. SCWIs work in every industry that uses welding as a core process in the manufacture, construction, or fabrication of their products. SCWIs supervise others and are responsible for directing and performing operations to ensure that all welding-related activities meet applicable requirements. SCWIs work in every industry that uses welding as a core process in the manufacture, construction, or fabrication of their products. SCWIs know which factors influence welding quality; how to oversee welders to ensure higher-quality work; and the complementary factors that help maximize productivity. SCWIs must meet experiential requirements and pass an exam.

Education and/or Experience REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must be a high school graduate or hold a state or military approved high school equivalency diploma and meet experiential requirements. Note: Education may be substituted for experience as follows:
- High School Diploma or GED with 15 years of related welding experience
- High school diploma plus one-year of engineering/technical school courses or one or more years of vocational education and training in a welding curriculum with 14 years of related welding experience
- High school diploma plus two or more years engineering/technical school courses 13 years of related welding experience
- Associate or higher degree in engineering technology, engineering, or a physical science with 12 years of related welding experience
- Bachelor or higher degree in welding engineering or welding technology with 11 years of related welding experience

The Senior Certified Welding Inspector (SCWI) credential has the following other requirements:
