The National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), National Certified Counselor (NCC) is an intermediate-level certification for practitioners of behavioral health and psychology. NCC is a prerequisite for follow-on for advanced-level NBCC certifications; this is the primary credential of the NBCC. Requirements for obtaining the NCC credential include; holding a graduate degree in counseling (or one with a major study in counseling) from a regionally accredited college or university, graduate-level coursework in specified coursework areas, practical experience in providing counseling service, and a passing the associated National Counselor Exam (NCE).

Education/Training and/or Experience REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must hold a master’s degree with a major study in counseling including at least 48 semester or 72 quarter hours of graduate-level academic credit in counseling.
Coursework must cover the nine required content areas.
Candidates must document at least 100 hours of counseling supervision.
Candidates must document having completed at least 3,000 hours of counseling work experience.

The National Certified Counselor (NCC) credential has the following other requirements:
