ASNT Certification of Industrial Radiography Radiation Safety Personnel (IRRSP) - X-Ray is applicable to those individuals who perform or supervise industrial radiography utilizing radiation-producing equipment. Candidates must have a minimum of 40 hours of formal classroom instruction in radiation safety topics or 28 hours of web-based training combined with 12 hours of classroom or laboratory training and a minimum of 160 hours of active participation in performing X-ray radiography. The examination consists of a written portion administered by ASNT and a practical portion administered by an institution recognized by ASNT.

Experience REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must have a minimum of 160 hours of active participation in performing X-ray radiography. Experience must be acquired under the control of a license or registration granted by the USNRC or Agreement State for radioisotopes, or by a jurisdictional authority for X-ray.
Training REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must complete 40 hours of formal classroom instruction in the radiation safety topics described in the Suggested State Regulations for Control of Radiation (SSRCR) Part E, ¶ E.17(g).
Option 2:Candidates must complete 28 hours of web-based training combined with 12 hours of classroom or laboratory training covering the hands-on portion of the training. The hands-on training shall include, but not be limited to, the use, operation, calibration, and limitations of radiation survey instruments; survey techniques; and use of personnel monitoring equipment.

Practical Exam
- A practical examination administered by either a current RSO or their appointed representative of an institution recognized by ASNT and licensed or registered by a regulatory authority to conduct industrial radiography, which requires the candidate to adequately demonstrate ability to safely operate the radiation producing equipment in at least one technique for which ASNT IRRSP certification is sought.

Additional considerations for the Industrial Radiography Radiation Safety Personnel - X-Ray (IRSSP-X-Ray) include:
Acceptance of the IRRSP radiation safety certification within a state is solely at the discretion of the state in question. However, states that do recognize “approved certifying entities” will accept the IRRSP certifications because ASNT is an approved Certifying Entity.
