To receive an NCCER credential, candidates must apply; take a written assessment, and a practical exam. The Industrial/All Purpose crane operator credential requires taking both the Industrial/All Purpose written and practical exams.

The Industrial/All Purpose Crane credential has the following other requirements:
- Complete and sign the Application for the Mobile Crane Operator Practical Examination, which includes an affidavit verifying the candidate has successfully passed a substance abuse test, pursuant to the employer’s drug and alcohol free workplace and substance abuse policy, and will continue to comply.
