The International Code Council (ICC) Fire Inspector I certification validates an individual's technical knowledge, education and related experience as an inspector. The certification holder demonstrates the ability to inspect buildings to make sure all federal, state, and local fire codes are being met, and to address emergency exits, alarms, sprinkler systems and safety precautions. Additional competencies include determining occupancy amount within a building and identifying violations. Certified individuals have knowledge of building codes and an understanding of the general provisions for fire safety, including occupancy and handling of regulated materials. Certified Fire Inspectors will also have knowledge of appropriate processes as it applies to general code compliance when conducting a fire inspection. Successful candidates for the Fire Inspector I certification must provide a signed affidavit and documentation of completion of a training course compliant with NFPA 472 HazMat Awareness. Candidates are required to pass a multiple-choice written exam with at least a 75%.
