The National Council of Building Design Certification (NCBDC) / American Institute of Building Design (AIBD), Certified Professional Building Designer (CPBD) certification is for design professionals designing and preparing the construction documents for one and two-family dwellings and light commercial buildings within the United States. CPBD candidates must have at least six years of practical experience (up to three years of educational experience may be substituted for practical experience) and pass a written exam.

Education and/or Experience REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must have at least six years of engagement in the professional practice of building design (minimum 20 hours per week).
Note: One year of education from a college, university or technical institute is equivalent to one year of experience. A maximum of three years of school may be used to substitute an equal length of experience.

The Certified Professional Building Designer (CPBD) credential has the following other requirements:
