The National Healthcareer Association (NHA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) is an intermediate-level allied health care professional credential. CCMAs specialize in procedures commonly performed in ambulatory health care settings. Medical assistants perform both clinical and administrative duties and assist a variety of providers including physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. They typically work in medical offices, clinics, urgent care centers and may work in general medicine or specialty practices. Applicants for the CCMA are required to pass an exam, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and meet training or experience requirements.

Education REQUIREMENTS
CCMA applicants are required to have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Training and/or Experience REQUIREMENTS
CCMA applicants are required to complete an accredited or state-recognized training program in clinical medical assisting.
Option 2:CCMA applicants are required to complete a registered apprentice program in the clinical medical assisting field; NHA requires that the apprenticeship is registered with the U.S. Department of Labor.
Option 3:
CCMA applicants are required to have military experience that includes formal medical services training in clinical medical assisting; NHA accepts military experience offered by any branch of the U.S. Military.
*Applicants whose date of graduation or completion from their training program is five years or more prior to the date of application, also must have relevant work experience.
Other REQUIREMENTS
The Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) credential has the following other requirements:
- CCMA applicants are required to be at least 18 years of age.
- Applicants must abide by and follow NHA's Code of Ethics included in the NHA's Candidate Handbook.
