The Certified Associate in Software Testing (CAST) credential demonstrates a foundation-level understanding of quality testing principles and practices. Acquiring the designation of CAST indicates a professional level of competence in the principles and practices of software testing in the IT profession. Applicants must have three years of experience in the information services field or the equivalent in education and experience as determined by QAI. Applicants must pass a written exam to earn the certification and renewal is required every three years.

To qualify for candidacy, each applicant must meet ONE of three requirements listed below have:
- A 3-year degree or 4-year degree from an accredited college-level institution, or
- A 2-year degree from an accredited college-level institution and 1 year of experience in the information services field, or
- Three years of experience in the information services field.
