The National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO), Boom Truck Fixed Cab Operator (BTF) certification attests to the knowledge and proficiency required for the safe operation of cranes. The Boom Truck—Fixed Cab Operator certification is a subcategory of the CCO Telescopic Boom—Fixed Cab (TSS) certification and was developed specifically for the industries that use these machines. Boom Truck Fixed Cab Operators lift, lower, and swing loads at various radii, requiring the use of outriggers/stabilizers. Candidates must pass a practical and written exam.

Candidate must be trained in mobile crane operation and it is recommended that candidates currently work in crane operation.

The Boom Truck Fixed Cab Operator credential has the following other requirements:

  • Candidate must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Candidate must meet the NCCCO medical requirements and ASME B30 physical requirements.

Practical Exam

  • The Practical Examination is comprised of six main tasks that increase progressively in the skill level tested. Skills tested are: inspecting the equipment hoisting, booming, swinging, following hand signals, and combination (multifunction) operations. Crane operation with load and without load is required.

RECERTIFICATION

Boom Truck Fixed Cab Operator

Renewal Period: 5 years

The Boom Truck Fixed Cab Operator credential has the following recertification information:

  • Pass the recertification written examinations. Certification holders who can attest to at least 1,000 hours crane-related experience during their period of certification do not need to take the Practical Exam to recertify.
  • Continue to meet the NCCCO medical requirements.
