The American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP), Board Certified Specialist in Rehabilitation Psychology credential is an advanced-level certification for Rehabilitation Psychologists. Rehabilitation Psychologists support individuals with disabilities; they assist individuals in coping with and adjusting to chronic, traumatic, or congenital injuries or illnesses that may result in a wide variety of physical, sensory, neurocognitive, emotional, and developmental disabilities. Candidates for the ABPP Board Certified Specialist in Rehabilitation Psychology must meet educational, experiential, training and other requirements, and must also pass the exam.

Credential Pre-requisite REQUIREMENTS
Candidates are required to have a license or certificate in psychology at the independent practice level by the State, Province, or Territory of the U.S. or Canada in which the psychologist practices. Exceptions to the residency requirement are made for active duty federal uniformed service psychologists when practicing in those roles.
Education REQUIREMENTS
Candidates are required to hold a doctoral degree in psychology that meets the standards set by the American Board of Rehabilitation Psychology (ABRP). For information about the standards set by the ABRP see the ABPP ABRP Rehabilitation Psychology Candidate Manual.
Experience REQUIREMENTS
Candidates are required to have professional Rehabilitation Psychology experience that satisfied the following criteria:
- Rehabilitation Psychology experience must total three years and is full-time profesisonal
- Two of the three years must be supervised
- One year may be satisfied by a predoctoral internship with an emphasis in Rehabilitation Psychology.
Supervised Experience in Rehabilitation Psychology which can be satisfied by:
- Two years of postdoctoral experience with an emphasis in Rehabilitation Psychology, or
- One year of pre- and one year of post-doctoral supervised experience in Rehabilitation Psychology
- Successful completion of a recognized postdoctoral program in Rehabilitation Psychology.
Other REQUIREMENTS
The Board Certified Specialist in Rehabilitation Psychology credential has the following other requirements:
- Candidates are required to submit completed Endorsement Forms from at least two colleagues who are aware of the scope of the candidate’s training and current practice.
