Credential: ASNT NDT Level II Certification - Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT)
Credentialing Agency: American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT)
Renewal Period: 5 years
The ASNT NDT Level II program provides third-party certification for nondestructive testing (NDT) personnel whose specific jobs require appropriate knowledge of the NDT method(s) for which certification is sought. Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT) is used to reveal surface discontinuities and makes it easier to detect flaws than an unaided visual inspection. Liquid penetrant testing is one of the most widely used NDT methods. Its popularity can be attributed to two main factors: its relative ease of use and its flexibility. It can be used to inspect almost any material provided that its surface is not extremely rough or porous. Materials that are commonly inspected using this method include; metals, glass, many ceramic materials, rubber and plastics. Candidates must have a minimum of 400 hours of experience in NDT with 210 hours in the specialty, a minimum of 12 hours of training in the specialty, and agree to abide by the code of ethics of ASNT Level II personnel.Candidates applying for initial certification must take both the general examination and at least one specific examination in each test method for which certification is sought.
More information can be found on the certifying agency's website.
