The Source Inspector Fixed Equipment certification program qualifies individuals performing the task of supplier quality surveillance. The individual performing this task may be a full-time employee of an end-user or a contractor. The Source Inspector has been defined as the individual responsible for: examining fabricated and manufactured equipment and materials at the supplier facility and confirming that the supplier's quality management system is being utilized effectively. The Source Inspector of Fixed Equipment focuses primarily on pressure containing and structural equipment including: vessels, columns/towers, heat exchangers, piping, valves, pressure relief devices, tubulars, and associated structural fabrications. Other advanced examination modules targeting the inspection practices on specific and/or complex commodities are envisioned for the future, such as Source Inspector - Rotating Equipment, and Source Inspector - Electrical Equipment and Instrumentation. The API SI-FE certification is valid for a three-year term.
