The Alternate Fuels - Compressed Natural Gas Vehicle (F1) certification is for technicians who can demonstrate knowledge of the skills necessary to diagnose, service, and repair compressed natural gas vehicles. Candidates must pass an examination. The examination contains 55 scored questions on vehicle inspection, equipment installation, leak testing and repairs, emissions, system diagnosis, maintenance and repair, and cylinder safety. Technicians must retest every five years to retain their certification. The Alternate Fuels CNG Vehicle recertification test (F1R) is about half as long as the initial certification test.
