ASNT Central Certification Program-Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT) (ACCP-PT) Level II, certifies individual's familiarity with the scope and limitations of the Liquid Penetrant Testing method and technique. The certification holder demonstrates the skills and knowledge required to set up and calibrate equipment, conduct tests, interpret, evaluate, and document results in accordance with procedures approved by an ACCP Professional Level III or ASNT NDT Level III. ASNT requires candidates to meet the ACCP-II training and experience requirements and pass General, Specific, Practical and Instruction Preparation Examination. The ACCP Level II certification is also available in five (5) additional Nondestructive Testing (NDT) methods: Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Radiographic Testing (RT), Electromagnetic Testing (ET) and Visual and Optical Testing (VT).

Candidates must have minimum documented experience of 200 hours in Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT) method and 400 hours in PT Nondestructive Testing (NDT).

Note: Candidates experience shall be based on the actual hours worked in the specific method. While fulfilling total NDT experience requirement, experience may be gained in more than one (1) method, and hours spent performing NDT-related tasks may be counted. 

Candidate must have minimum 40 hours of documented training in Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT) method.

Note: Training hours may include both practical and theory courses. Practical training may not make up more than 50% of the overall level II training curriculum.

The ASNT Central Certification Program Level II - Liquid Penetrant Testing (ACCP-PT) credential has the following other requirements:

  • Candidate must agree to abide by the American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT), Central Certification Program (ACCP) Level II Code of Ethics.
  • Candidates must pass a visual acuity examination no earlier than 12 months before submitting the application. A Visual Acuity Report form is included with the application and must be signed by the person who administered the visual acuity exam.

Candidate must pass a General Examination,one or more Specific Examinations,one or more Practical Examinations,and an Instruction Preparation Examination.

Candidate must pass at least one Specific exam. This exam determines the certification sector. The exam covers General Industry questions based upon a supplied general industry NDT procedure and Pressure Equipment questions based upon a supplied pressure equipment sector NDT procedure.

Candidate must pass at least one Practical exam. This exam determines the certification technique.

  • Candidate must complete an instruction based upon a supplied general NDT procedure. The Instruction Preparation exam result counts as 15% of the Practical exam final score.

The ASNT Central Certification Program Level II - Liquid Penetrant Testing (ACCP-PT) credential has the following recertification information:

At the 5-year interval after initial certification or recertification by examination, ACCP Level II certificate holders may renew their certification(s) by meeting the following requirements:

  • Submit the appropriate ASNT recertification application and fees
  • Re-affirm the ASNT Level II Code of Ethics and other applicable agreements
  • Affirm continued active employment in Level II functions as related to the NDT Method(s) for which renewal is sought.
  • Submit a current copy of the certificate holder's signature, color photo, and current address.

At the 10-year interval after initial certification or recertification by examination, ACCP Level II certificate holders must renew by examination by completing the following requirements:

  • Submit the appropriate ASNT recertification application and fees
  • Re-affirm the ASNT Level II Code of Ethics and other applicable agreements
  • Pass the required practical exam(s)
  • Submit a current copy of the certificate holder's signature, color photo, and current address

At any time prior to their expiration date, ASNT certificate holders may apply to take the renewal examination(s) applicable to their certifications.
