International Board of Specialty Certification (IBSC), Tactical Paramedic Certification (TP-C) is for paramedic professionals currently providing critical care in the austere and care-under-fire environments. TP-C candidates should have knowledge in casualty assessment, stabilization, and evacuation in hostile and austere environments and thorough familiarity with tactical principles, triage, and operational medicine. Candidates should also have knowledge of the Committee on Tactical Combat Casualty Care and the Committee for Tactical Emergency Casualty Care guidelines, management of the full tactical injury spectrum (from less-than-lethal to chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive (CBRNE)), force health protection, and medico-legal aspects of Tactical Emergency Medical Services. To earn the TP-C, candidates must hold an unrestricted paramedic license in the state or country of practice and pass a written exam.

RECERTIFICATION

Tactical Paramedic Certification (TP-C)

Renewal Period: 4 years

The Tactical Paramedic Certification (TP-C) credential has the following recertification information:

  • The TP-C is valid for a four-year period. To recertify, certification holders must maintain a current, unrestricted paramedic license in the state or country of practice and either submit 100 approved continuing education (CE) credits and pay applicable recertification fees or retake the written certification exam and pay applicable exam fees.

  • The CE credits must have a clear and direct application to the practice of flight and critical care medicine. Seventy-five of the credits must be in the clinical category with at least 16 clinical hours obtained by completing an approved review course. Twenty-five of the credits may be in the operational category, though additional clinical credits may be utilized.

Additional considerations for the Tactical Paramedic Certification (TP-C) include:

  • Experience in critical care and care in the austere environment with additional education in this specialty area are highly recommended to prepare for the TP-C exam.

Highly attainable: mimum education requirement = HS or less and/or minimum experience = 2 years or less experience and no additional requirements.
