The Certified Senior Crime Scene Analyst is an advanced-level certification. The Senior Crime Scene Analyst supervises, leads, and participates in the most complex and difficult work of investigating crime scenes and collecting/evaluating evidence. A minimum of six years of experience in crime scene related activities is required. Additional requirements include meeting the minimum hours of mandatory training or coursework and documentation of advanced professional experience.

Must have completed a minimum of 144 hours of Crime Scene Certification Board approved instruction in crime scene related courses within the last five (5) years.

The Certified Senior Crime Scene Analyst (CSCSA) credential has the following other requirements:

  • Applicants must have completed one of the following:

      • Authored or coauthored an article on some phase of crime scene investigation published in a professional journal OR;
      • Made a presentation on some phase of crime scene investigation to a professional organization, OR;
      • Be an active instructor in some phase of crime scene investigation who is currently teaching at least once a year, OR;
      • Submit a court transcript from an actual case in which the applicant gave testimony on some phase of crime scene investigation.

RECERTIFICATION

The Certified Senior Crime Scene Analyst (CSCSA) credential has the following recertification information:

The crime scene certification program, Certified Crime Scene Investigator, Certified Crime Scene Analyst and Certified Senior Crime Scene Analyst, requires recertification every five years. Renewal requirements are as follows:
  • Accumulate 80 Continuing Education/Professional Development Credits since their initial certification or last recertification.
  • Complete a recertification application.
  • Submit the required fee.
  • Take a written test.

Additional considerations for the Certified Senior Crime Scene Analyst (CSCSA) include:

  • Upon approval by the Crime Scene Certification Board, an agency's structured training program hours may be reciprocated for portions of or for the amount of required hours of instruction for the applied Level.
