Radiography (R.T.(R)) is a mid-level certification. Radiographers apply ionizing radiation to demonstrate portions of the human body - on a radiograph, fluoroscopic screen, or other imaging system - to assist physicians in diagnosis of disease and injury. The knowledge and skills covered by the examination is distributed among five major content areas: radiation protection, equipment operation and quality control, image production and evaluation, radiographic procedures, patient care and education. Candidates must have at least an Associate's degree and clinical experience to be eligible to sit for the written exam.

Education and/or Experience REQUIREMENTS
Beginning on January 1, 2015, all candidates for certification and registration in Radiography must have earned an academic degree, at the Associate's level or higher, before becoming certified and registered. ARRT recognizes only accreditation agencies that are recognized by CHEA and/or USDE. A list of accrediting agencies recognized by ARRT for the academic degree and professional education requirements is available here. Additional information can be obtained from the Primary Discipline Handbook.
Candidates must complete an educational program in the same discipline as the credential being pursued. As part of the program, candidates must demonstrate competencies in didactic coursework and clinical procedures.
