The American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), Phlebotomy Technician Certification (PTC) is an entry-level phlebotomy credential suited to medical technicians who specialize in collecting, processing and handling human blood. Phlebotomy technicians have a variety of job responsibilities that include identifying and interacting professionally with patients, performing venipunctures, performing capillary draws and transporting specimens to the laboratory. They must take proper measures to ensure safety and infection control. The minimum requirement to obtain the credential or license varies by state. Education/Training and/or Experience REQUIREMENTS
Applicant must have completed training from an approved program that includes a minimum of 40 hours in phlebotomy with specific training in special populations, performing phlebotomy, lab tests and special handling.
Option 2:
Applicant must have two or more years of experience and be currently working in the phlebotomy field.
Note: Candidates must provide proof of employment/ experience in the form of a written letter. Letters should include daily responsibilities and tasks performed as part of your clinical medical assistant role.Military Specific REQUIREMENTS

Other REQUIREMENTS
The Phlebotomy Technician Certification (PTC) credential has the following other requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- The AMCA recommends a minimum of 30 venipunctures and 10 capillaries, upon completion of a clinical program. The laws and regulations pertaining to minimum requirements and the allied health industry vary by state. It is highly recommended that test candidates familiarize themselves with their particular states rules and regulations regarding certification requirements.
