The American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), Clinical Medical Administrative Assistant Certification (CMAAC) is for individuals who possess clinical medical assistant skills such as taking vitals, drawing blood, and charting a patient's history and administrative assistant skills such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, and handling billing and bookkeeping. To earn the CMAAC, candidates must be at least 18 years of age, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, and meet a training program or experience requirement. Candidates must also pass a written exam.

Education REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
Training and/or Experience REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must be a graduate from a training program and take the CMAAC exam no later than one year from the training program completion date.
Note: The training program shall include, at a minimum, 600 clock hours of instruction and shall encompass training in the administration of intramuscular and subcutaneous injections and instruction and demonstration in; pertinent anatomy and physiology appropriate to injection procedures; choice of equipment; proper technique, including sterile technique; hazards and complications; and emergency procedures. The AMCA recommends a minimum of 30 venipunctures, 10 capillaries and 10 successful EKGs, upon completion of a clinical program.
Candidates must have two or more years of work experience immediately preceding the date of application and be presently working in the field.
