The Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) is a mid-level credential. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is the medical procedure of introducing large amounts of oxygen, under extreme atmospheric pressure, into the bloodstream of those afflicted with a variety of medical conditions. Certified hyperbaric technologists, or technicians, may undergo training at a number of medical institutions. Eligibility for the CHT includes completion of an approved NBDHMT introductory course and other experiential requirements.

Education and/or Training REQUIREMENTS
You must meet all of the requirements:
- You must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- You must have completed a National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology (NBDHMT) approved hyperbaric medicine introductory course.
- You must maintain the training/education requirements of the original qualifying Vocation. For a list of qualifying vocations visit CHT Resource Manual.
- As part of the clinical internship you must complete the Transcutaneous Oxygen Monitoring (TCOM) Module.
- You must meet a minimum clinical internship of 480 hours of undersea, hyperbaric medicine or aviation medicine technology.
- Military personnel must complete 1000 clinical hours in addition to required, approved, training received in the military (unless 480 hours of approved clinical internship can be completed at an approved facility).
Other REQUIREMENTS
The Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) credential has the following other requirements:
- You must be 18 years of age.
- Candidate must maintain and provide proof of prior training/certification/licensure in one of their original qualifying vocations. List of qualifying vocations can be obtained from CHT Resource Manual.
- You must provide a letter of recommendation from present employer, administrator or medical director.
- Criminal background check is required for all patient care providers in hospital settings.
- Steps that the CHT candidate should take to complete the TCOM module before applying for certification:
- Read the learning objectives.
- Study the enclosed TcPO2 references.
- Study the operating manual of the TcPO2 monitor.
- Complete the TCOM module.
- Complete the TCOM module post-test.
- Attach to the CHT application: (1) a letter from the present employer, administrator, or medical director that certifies completion of the TCOM module; (2) a copy of the TCOM module post-test.

Practical Exam
Note: Graduates of approved introductory training programs in hyperbaric technology are required to undergo a minimum clinical internship of 480 hours. Sixty (60) hours of the requirement should be a supervised clinical internship to complete eligibility requirements for certification examination. As part of the prescribed clinical internship, CHT applicants must complete the TCOM Module. Military personnel must complete 1000 clinical hours in addition to required, approved training received in the military (unless 480 hours of approved clinical internship can be completed at an approved facility)
