The National Healthcareer Association (NHA), Certified EKG Technician (CET) is an entry-level credential for allied healthcare professionals. EKG Technicians perform or prepare patients for diagnostic tests related to the heart, these include EKGs, Holter monitoring, and stress testing. Applicants for the CET are required to pass an exam, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and meet training or experience requirements.

Education REQUIREMENTS
CET applicants are required to have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Experience REQUIREMENTS
CET applicants are required to have experience that includes 10 EKGs on live individuals and occurred within the last 3 years; this experience can be obtained in training or with professional experience. This experience must be verifiable.
Training and/or Experience REQUIREMENTS
CET applicants are required to complete an accredited or state-recognized EKG technician training program.
Option 2:CET applicants are required to complete a registered apprentice program related to the field of allied healthcare with specific experience in EKG or clinical cardiology; NHA requires that the apprenticeship is registered with the U.S. Department of Labor.
Option 3:CET applicants are required to have military experience that includes formal medical services training in EKG or clinical cardiology; NHA accepts military experience and offered by any branch of the U.S. Military.
*Candidates whose date of graduation or completion from their training program is five years or more prior to the date of application, also must have relevant work experience.
Other REQUIREMENTS
The Certified EKG Technician (CET) credential has the following other requirements:
- CET applicants are required to be at least 18 years of age.
- Applicants must abide by and follow NHA's Code of Ethics included in NHA's Candidate Handbook.
