Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) validates technical proficiency in certain skills and general areas of knowledge related to Hemodialysis. Hemodialysis technician sets up and monitors dialysis machines and systems for correct functioning, responds to visual and audible alarms during the dialysis treatment and dismantles, cleans and disinfects dialysis machines and equipment. The certification examination is distributed over four areas: clinical, technical, environment, and role. This is an entry level certification and requires applicants to hold minimum of high school diploma and completion of a training program for hemodialysis patient care technicians that included both classroom instruction and supervised clinical experience.

Education REQUIREMENTS
Applicant must possess a minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent (GED). Hemodialysis patient care technicians with greater than 4 years of work experience and lacking evidence of a high school diploma or its equivalent, may use experience in lieu of the high school diploma.
Training REQUIREMENTS
The applicant must have successfully completed a training program for hemodialysis patient care technicians that included both classroom instruction and supervised clinical experience.
Other REQUIREMENTS
The Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) credential has the following other requirements:
- The applicant must be in compliance with state regulations of the practice of hemodialysis patient-care technicians. Applicants must meet the experience requirement (for certification) of the state in which they practice.
- The applicant must obtain the signature of a preceptor/supervisor to verify training and clinical experience. It is recommended, but not required, that an applicant have a minimum of six months (or 1,000 hours) of clinical experience, including the training period, prior to taking the exam.
