The Association of Boards of Certification (ABC), Biological Industrial Waste Operator - Class II is an intermediate-level biological wastewater treatment operator certification. Candidates for Class II must have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent and 3 years of relevant work experience. Individuals who do not meet the requirements may still be eligible based on experience and other criteria. Candidates must also pass an examination, demonstrating knowledge of core competencies for biological industrial waste operators.

ABC requires that candidates for class II certifications hold a high school diploma or its equivalent; on a case-by-case basis the agency will consider an applicant that does not meet this requirement.

ABC requires Class II candidates to have three years of relevant experience.

    • To include knowledge of the following support equipment: blowers and compressors, chemical feeders, computers, drives, electronic testing equipment (e.g., volt meters), flow measurement devices, generators, hand tools, instrumentation, measuring and control systems, motors, pneumatic equipment, power tools, pumps, and valves
  • Evaluate and Maintain Support Equipment (15%)
    • To include knowledge of the following: Check speed of equipment, inspect equipment for abnormal conditions, measure head loss, measure temperature of equipment, read charts, read meters, and read pressure gauges
    • Perform diagnostic and preventive maintenance on: blowers and compressors, chemical feeders, drives, instrumentation, motors, pumps and valves
    • Perform corrective maintenance on: chemical feeders, drives, instrumentation, motors, pumps, and valves
  • Administrative Duties (8%)
    • Perform Administrative Duties
    • Establish recordkeeping system and record information
  • Safety and Emergency Preparedness (10%)
    • Establish safety programs and perform safety procedures for: blood borne pathogens, chemical hazard communication, confined space entry, electrical grounding, fire, first aid, infectious diseases, lifting, lock-out/tag-out, personal hygiene, personal protective equipment, respiratory protection, slips, trips, and falls
    • Establish emergency plans and respond to emergencies for: civil disorder, facility upset, hazardous waste, natural disasters, power disruption, spill response

RECERTIFICATION

Biological Industrial Waste Operator - Class II

The Biological Industrial Waste Operator - Class II credential has the following recertification information:

  • The Biological Industrial Waste Operator – Class II certification is valid for two years. Certification holders must complete 24 hours of continuing education approved by ABC. For more information, see the ABC Renewal page.
