Types of Credential Costs

The types of credential costs vary by credential and are dependent upon how the credentialing agency has structured its eligibility requirements, its fee schedule, and its maintenance or renewal requirements.

Credential preparation costs typically, at a minimum, will include the cost of purchasing study guides and other materials or training to help you prepare for the exam. If the credential has education or training requirements that must be met to be able to sit for an exam then there may be costs associated with that, too.

When you apply for the credential, the credentialing body might have fees associated with reviewing your application and there will more than likely be fees associated with the exam or exams.

By definition, a credential requires periodic renewal to demonstrate continued competencies. Renewal requirements can vary and there may be costs associated with them. For example, you may be required to accrue a certain amount of Continuing Education Units (CEU) by participating in conferences, webinars, or training.
